I have exactly one family heirloom and it is this hand embroidered bed coverlet that my great-grandmother made!

My great-grandmother Juanita died when I was really little. I wish that I could have known her. From what I hear we would have had a lot in common. She loved to travel and to make things!

Many years ago her daughter, my Nana gave me this “quilt” bc she knew I would appreciate it. I’ve moved it with me from apartment to apartment then house to house. But when we moved into our house in San Antonio, I asked Matt if he could make a frame for it. So now it proudly hangs in my creating space!

I love it so much! The bright colors, the beautiful textures, the simplicity of the design. It’s a beautiful piece of folk art.

When my Nana came to look at it hanging in this room, she let me know they had worked on it together. She drew everything and then my bisabuela (great-grandmother) stitched it. So now it is doubly special to me!

As I’m starting this stitching adventure, I thought it would be cool to share some of my history. Stitching is literally in my blood!

Cheers my dears!

Jamie
