Hiya! I am the “Le” in Leto! My name is Jamie Leija and I live in San Antonio, TX with my husband (the “to” in Leto) Matt Tomerlin and our creature crew. We have 1 dog (Dixon) and 3 cats (Izlington, Minnow and Fred). We decided to not have children and instead focus our energy on our creatures, families and community!

My mama bought me these adorable scissors from @bostongeneralstore. And at the same time I saw an ad for this gorgeous @naturallife pom pom lanyard. The combo is perfect for stitching! I never have to look for lost scissors!

Excited for a new start! I joined @tinymodernist’s patreon and went hunting through her shop for fun things to stitch. I immediately knew that I wanted to stitch this for my mama. From the adorable little mouse, to the skulls and the Fall-ish vibe, I know she’s gonna love it!

I have exactly one family heirloom and it is this hand embroidered bed coverlet that my great-grandmother made!

My great-grandmother Juanita died when I was really little. I wish that I could have known her. From what I hear we would have had a lot in common. She loved to travel and to make things!

Many years ago her daughter, my Nana gave me this “quilt” bc she knew I would appreciate it. I’ve moved it with from apartment to apartment then house to house. But when we moved into our house in San Antonio, I asked Matt if he could make a frame for it. So now it proudly hangs in my studio!

I love it so much! The bright colors, the beautiful textures, the simplicity of the design. It’s a beautiful piece of folk art.

When my Nana came to look at it hanging in this room, she let me know they had worked on it together. She drew everything and then my bisabuela stitched it. So now it is doubly special to me!

As I’m starting this stitching adventure, I thought it would be cool to share some of my history. Stitching is literally in my blood!

I work for the San Antonio Book Festival and absolutely love my job! We’re a small team that works all year to put on an annual festival as well as other literary events throughout the year. I’ve been a big reader since I was a child, and books have always been a passion of mine. I still can’t believe I get to work with books and authors and that I’m somehow adjacent to the publishing industry!

When I’m not working or spending time with my family, my favorite hobbies include traveling, reading, getting crafty and now stitching!

I have been a paper person all of my life and part of the scrapbooking community since basically forever (28 years) and was involved in the industry as part of several companies design teams. I love paper crafting but was feeling overwhelmed by all of the projects I was taking on, so I decided to take a break. And that’s when I dove fully into cross stitching!

As a kid and then a teen, I dabbled in cross stitch. Then didn’t pick it up again until a few years ago. Since 2021, I’ve worked on a project or two. But really dove head first into it last year. I now have a handful of FFOs and lots more completed projects that just need finishing!

Did I mention part of my job at the Book Festival is graphic design? I didn’t. But it is! And it’s also why I’m throwing my hat into the pattern designing ring! I am so excited to share the very first few designs that I’ve ever created. So please stay tuned to this channel/account to see what my brain has cooked up for you!

For my very first post, I thought I’d share this little treasure box! It’s my box of DMC floss that I used as a child.

Lots of these bobbins were wound and labeled by my mama for her cross stitch projects. Then I commandeered it and started making friendship bracelets! This was wildly popular when I was in 5th grade. That would have been 1995!! Note the color-in Lisa Frank stickers I added to the lid 😃😍💖

I don’t use any of this floss. Instead I prefer to keep this little treasure intact. It sits with the rest of my supplies and makes me happy whenever I I see it!
